Work still goes on the forthcoming Justice Howard website. On today’s mock-up I tried the design with an alternate photo from Justice’s same shoot. I always preferred the first photo as the colors were a little duller and that splash of purple in the top-right window is to die for - but for the sake of experimentation, I tried a different shot to see how it would flow throughout the design. I’m preferring this version as it is setting clearer boundaries by seperating imagery and content. Also, Justice requested that the news/blog page of the site be a little less grungy so as to not frighten off some of her more corporate clientele and potential Hollywood headshot aspirants. We have decided to make the news page a blog which will contain elements of the design but more stripped back and cleaner.
Also on Justice’s request, I removed some of the tattoo-brushes I had on the model’s stomach as according to Justice “she has such the most beautiful stomach it should be seen dont you think?” Agreed! Agreed! Actually, I was thinking the very same thing when I was roughing out that first mock-up so in this design, I’ve tried to let the photo do most of the talking.

Version 2: With alternate shot. Sharper, cleaner and more stark. Clear defined lineage and seperation of content and imagery

Version 1: Original shot. Duller color. Messy layout.
More on the development of the Justice Howard website:

This is looking fantastic. I prefer the latest version if my opinion counts for anything.
WOW VERY COOL. The second one is the better one.
This is starting to come together well. Both versions are great but the 2ND one seems more completed. Looking forward to seeing the final website.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Having spent 24 hours away from the design, I am definetely leaning towards the second design for the simple fact that it is cleaner, leaner and linear. There’s still work to be done, but I like the direction it is heading. I still have a preference for the model photo in version 1 (something a little more sinister about her in that shot). I have a different color version (red/orange more organic version) which I may experiment with further timr permitting.
Nice
Your designs remind me more of print work than what’s currently happening on the internet. Which is very refreshing. I’m kinda stuck in this thing of everything having to be in boxes. So its making me think a bit outside the…er…box..(ouch that was shocker).
Can’t wait to see the finished version!
Are you gonna do it all in CSS/XHTML? Worth learning how to do roll overs with css. It’s pretty fun.
Good call Simon. I have been noticing a lot of my recent work having a very ‘magazine’ type of layout. I don’t know why that is happening but it seems to be going that route a lot. It is completely subconscious. Maybe I am getting sick of web-design? I don’t know, but I feel more inspiration from a well-designed mag than from another site. I’d love to be doing magazine spreads instead of web, I do know that, but it would be probably too hard for a career change these days.
GODDAM THAT IS LOOKING SWEET. Nice stylings dood!
