I often get asked about my header imagery for this blog. I have a bit of a fetish for finding creepy looking - almost abandoned lane-ways and underground passages throughout the city. No matter what time of day it is, they are always dark and fantastic locales to shoot in. It’s isn’t always safe and I make sure I scope out the area in an alert and conscientious manner because there is just no way of knowing who (or what!) you will bump into.
Over the past few nights I’ve gone out on some night-shooting in the city. I stumbled upon this little alleyway which is directly behind the Melbourne Town Hall. It is usually locked away behind a huge iron-fence but yesterday, I got lucky and the gate was left unlocked.

The alleyway was reasonably lit so I got to scope it out before heading all the way in. My mission was to take shots of the various lighting fixtures so I could make some new headers for this blog. Talk about dying for your art huh?
The thrill of taking the shots far outweighs being accosted by some drunkard and the results speak for themselves. You gotta see these babies in high-res. They look delish!
I’m toying with the idea of making some wallpapers for people as I get requests many times for these on my flickr page. But for now, here are some lo-res versions.

I love that second shot.
Ever had any run-ins with the police when on these little expeditions? Years ago my friends and I were filming in an abandoned abattoir that was in the process of being demolished. We were in for a few hours before some workman arrived and chased us out. We thought we got away but they must have got the mumber plate of the car we drove off in and so the police paid a little visit a few days later. I think the demolition company were just paranoid as there was a bit in the paper about unsafe work practices going on. Anyway my friend just gave the cops another tape and everything was hunky dory.
I should find the vhs and put it up on youtube!
Ohhh I’d love to shoot in an abandoned abattoir! That would be freaking awesome!
I haven’t had probs with police, just the occasional psycho and/or horny middle-aged woman who invited me to her apartment for god-knows-what. (I declined!)
