Last Call for 2006

Farewell 2006

If you could possibly understand what a trip the month December has been you would surely feel that the life of yours truly over the course of the past 4 weeks - were the ramblings of a madman! It started with the breakup of a long-term relationship and has ended with feelings of belief and hope. You see, I’ve met and spent time with the most amazing and unique person that has ever entered my life. Ever. Every moment with her is one to treasure. Every instance I am in her company fills me with so much pure, unadulterated life. I never thought I was ever capable of feeling like this.

Having said that, I can summarize it all with 3 DVDs and a book. And for now, that is all I am giving you - ye faithful droogs of all things Dogmatic.

I sincerely hope your 2007 will kick off on as positive a high note as mine is. And if you are in the St.Kilda area and you see two maniacs biking it on the foreshore… please, get out of our way!

The Dogmatic Best of 2006

The Best of 2006
And here we are at the death knell of another year. This can only mean one thing for all ye faithful droogs who’ve been here since 2003. You guessed it! It’s time for the Dogmatic Best of 2006 where we look back at the year’s best offerings in the pop-counterculture’s cesspool of goodies, nasties and indeed - all the delicious things that go bump in the night! Boo!

Musically, it has been an awesome year of supremely fine tuneage with some damn good releases from the established acts of the Metalsphere as well as some great young acts coming on through. There wasn’t a month or week that went past without a decent slab of tunes coming down the pipeline.

So without further delay, and after considerable consideration, internal debate and over analysis… here are the Dogmatic Top 10 Albums Anno Domini Nostri Iesu Christi… 2006. Enjoy!

Is It Destiny?

Is It Destiny?

I was not a fun person to be around this morning. I didn’t get too much sleep last night and woke up far too early for my liking. I was in a foul mood to all and sundry! Even my cat copped a blast. I guess I have a lot on my mind. I guess in a way I am fearful for what is to come over the next few days. I guess I am scared of ‘potential’ change in my life.

With that in mind, I had to get out today and keep myself busy. I spent most of today along Brunswick St doing some shopping and taking pics of the urban sprawl that is a main feature of this side of town.

Bottom line… in the greater scheme of things - tomorrow, is not just another day.

The crossroads… are calling my name again.

Black Sabbath/Heaven & Hell Is Reality

Black Sabbath Heaven and Hell Ronnie James Dio Tonny Iommi Geezer Butler Vinnie Appice
from l to r: Geezer Buttler, Ronnie James Dio, Vinnie Appice, Tony Iommi

Let’s not kid ourselves here, the definitive line-up of Black Sabbath (the greatest band of all time) will always be Ozzy, Tony, Geezer & Bill. But the next best thing is the classic Ronnie James Dio era of the band who recorded some of the band’s greatest albums in the early 80’s. Namely ‘Heaven & Hell’ and ‘Mob Rules’. (Heck, I’ve even got a ton of time for ‘Live Evil’ and ‘Dehumanizer’). This era of Sabbath is dear to my heart, because back in 1980 was I first began to dabble in darker and heavier music, Black Sabbath (along with Judas Priest and a fledging Iron Maiden) were the acts I latched onto. Bottom line, this reunion of sorts is huge news and very pleasing to see it is all becoming a reality.

Synchronicity and High Fidelity

Synchronicity & High Fidelity

Breakups are often a convoluted and painful thing. I should know. I found myself in the midst of one over the course of this month that left me in a state of disbelief and painful (PAINFUL) confusion. It is such a horrid period of one’s life and what is worse is the state of mind one can find enveloping his entire being. In short, it is vile and hurts like hell. Actually, it hurts like a muthafucker.

A month down the track, I am feeling much better about things as circumstance around my immediate future is heavily leaning to the positive side. It has been a somewhat transitional month and at times I have felt like an entire resurrection of my very being is occurring right before my eyes. I wish I could go into more detail, but at this stage of the game - things are still a little on the premature side so for now - I’ll shut up good and proper.

A Twisted Christmas

A Twisted Christmas. File this under the ‘its so bad its good department!

‘Godfather of Soul’ James Brown dies

‘Godfather of Soul’ James Brown dies.

So this is Christmas?

Dita Von Teese XmasHoly Fuck! It’s now Xmas Eve and do you think yours truly has gone out and bought pressies for the ones close to me that deserved to be pampered? Hell no! Although, I did go on a shopping-mall-trawl last week to do just that, but all I came home with was an Xbox 360 unit and the Gears of War game… for me(!!!) Yeah I know… I hear ya loud and clear.

So although Christmas has absolutely zero religious significance to me, I respect the fact that for the rest of my family - it is a special day. I can quite comfortably put aside my ‘black sheep’ status for at least a few hours and besides, there is nothing I adore more than to be able to spend quality time with the three most important people in my life. My folks and my sis are people I would die for as I treasure the bond we have between us. Its more than just ‘family’ as far as we’re concerned and in what has been a trying year for moi, they’re always there. Open arms. Open hearts. And for that, I am eternally grateful.

And with that in mind, I will trek out to the local shopping complex - which happens to be the largest in the southern hemisphere! And I will wrestle with the (insane) frantic mob and become one of them whilst I seek out 3 individual gifts for 3 very special people.

For the faithful droogs who make Dogmatic one of their daily ‘net rituals - thanks for the support and may this holiday period treat you and yours with smiles and fun.

Ah fuck it, I’ll just say it… Merry Christmas one and all. (ho ho ho!)

Rodriguez + Tarantino = Grindhouse

Grindhouse

Quite possibly the greatest trailer ever! Head on over to Yahoo’s Grindhouse page and be prepared to be blown to hell in teensy weensy pieces! Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse looks like it is going to be the genre release of the century!

Directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez present two full-length movies in a new horror double feature.

In Tarantino’s ‘Death Proof’, Austin’s hottest DJ, Jungle Julia, sets out into the night to unwind with her two friends Shanna an Arlene. Covertly tracking their moves is Stuntman Mike, a scarred rebel leering from behind the wheel of his muscle car, revving just feet away.

In Rodriguez’s ‘Planet Terror’, two doctors find their graveyard shift inundated with townspeople ravaged by sores. Among the wounded is Cherry, a dancer whose leg was ripped from her body. As the invalids quickly become enraged aggressors, Cherry and her ex-boyfriend Wray lead a team of accidental warriors into the night.
