I took my usual ear plugs (strips of black fabric cut from black socks which I roll up and insert) but I didn't need them. Mastodon were louder than Slayer, but sounded much muddier, which is why I think Slayer toned it down, for clarity's sake. A good choice. Not a bad concert...worth it to see Slayer for the first time. I went by myself.
