Face Down, Ass Up, Armed & Ready

A Day At Work

I’m totally under the pump at work. Sometimes, I honestly feel as if I am doing the work of three people. At least, my superiors have acknowledged that I am doing the work of two but nup, it’s definitely three! Having been at my current gig for 3 months now, I do feel a helluva lot more comfortable now than I did a month ago. I really do not mind the face down, ass up kinda environment. In fact, I think I kinda thrive on that (as long as I can be armed with my iPod, and no one bothers me… I’m good to go! Today for example, is one of those days where I am doing about 5 things at once on 5 different machines (all the while keeping an eye on the clock as pre-sale tickets to the Black Sabbath and Tori Amos gigs go on sale at noon - my credit card is about to get a serious workout as I’m getting two ticks for Tori and three for Sabbath!)

So today, I’m preparing DVD’s using Photoshop, Flash, Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro. Whilst I am preparing the graphics on one machine, the other G5 I am using to burn the DVD’s and then testing them on our DVD rack before getting labels printed and sending the discs up to the library who will dispatch them at the end of the month. At the same time, I am preparing detail documentation of the production process so in future, if I ever leave this gig, the next guy that comes along won’t have as hellish a time as I had having to learn the massive procedures that need to be undertaken in the monthly production cycle. At the same time, I am on the phone with the printer organizing for the printing of some brochures I have prepared and emailing my girlfriend so we can meet at lunch time along Chapel St.

And if that wasn’t enough, I have a photoshoot to do for a hotel tonight (3rd day in a row I have had to go there but with the possibility of regular photo work from them… I’m game!)

I’m under the pump… big time, but at least it is Friday and now that I know what I am doing with the massive workload before me, - I’m freaking loving it! Bring it on!

Lights, Camera, Manson

Marilyn Manson 'Eat Me, Drink Me'

Mad-haired Hollywood director Tim Burton is in talks with studio bosses about making a film about the life of Marilyn Manson and his estranged wife Dita Von Teese.

“I’m fascinated by Dita and Marilyn,” says Buron. “They’re like a living Brothers Grimm fairytale.”

David Chase speaks!

David Chase speaks! What do you do when your TV world ends? You go to dinner, then keep quiet. Sunday night, “Sopranos” creator David Chase took his wife out for dinner in France, where he’s fled to avoid “all the Monday morning quarterbacking” about the show’s finale.

Eleven Reasons Why Tony Soprano… Is Dead

Tony Soprano is dead

Tony Soprano… is dead.

Why? Because…

i) First episode of this season Bobby says you don’t hear it when you’re shot.

ii) Second to last episode of this season, Tony flashes to Bobby saying you don’t hear it when you’re shot.

iii) The entire story arc was about Tony - when Tony’s gone, the arc is done.

iv) In the diner, every time someone walked through the door, the perspective changed to Tony’s as he looked up

v) After the last bell jingle, just as the perspective changed to Tony’s everything went black and silent - as though the person whose perspective we were to shift to was no longer alive

vi) The cat was a reminder that Tony killed Chris, and had Adriana killed. The cat was a reminder that Tony’s a bad guy - who has it coming.

vii) There was so much symmetry between Phil’s execution in front of his family and Tony’s last moments

viii) We all know how much Godfather III ruined the Godfather movies. I think the focus on Meadow was a reference to the Godfather. David Chase didn’t end it the way Godfather III ended. This time the boss gets killed.

ix) Every other episode ended in music during the credits. This one had no music because Tony’s dead.

x) Episode titles have always meant something. This episode’s title referred to Bobby’s gift of the gun to Tony. When he gave it to him he made the comment about how everything would just go silent when you were shot.

xi) The ending was so incredibly brilliant. We all felt what it was like to be Tony in those final five minutes. We all felt nervous, anxious, just as he must have felt. After being absorbed into Tony’s experience, we were left with silence and blackness like death because…

Tony Soprano… is dead.

The Sopranos final episode

The Sopranos final episode. The ending was never going to be straightforward - nothing ever was in the world of Tony Soprano. That is why millions of viewers around the world have been addicted to eight years of plot twists that finally came to an end last night.

My Tasmanian Adventure

Tasmanian Devil

Today was easily our busiest day in Tasmania. The day started early as we had to go and pick up a hire-car as we were to head out to Port Arthur. It took us close to two hours to drive over and we spent the next few hours touring the ruins of the site and experiencing a lot of the areas history. As it was the scene of Australia’s worst mass murder in 1996, it was also a solemn time as we stood on the very spot where many innocent people lost their lives.

DJ Shadow Live In Melbourne

DJ Shadow

When my girlfreind, Sam (bless her heart!) bought tickets for us for the DJ Shadow gig tonight a few weeks ago, I gotta tell you - I had never heard of the guy. Though my musical stylings lean more toward the denim-leather-air-guitar-hail-satan brigade - I’m always game for new experiences. Having said that, the gig was simply amazing… one of the best I’ve been to.

As an added bonus, I was able to sneek in my Canon 400D in without trouble and next thing I knew we were only one row from the front.

At one point, a bouncer did warn me not to take photos but I snuck in quite a few shots which turned out really cool!
