Granted that today, there are many photos of the band during the 70’s without the make-up. (Look for a future ‘When KISS Was Cool’ segment on this blog for some mind-blowingly candid off-stage shots!)

I think we all deserve a “When KISS Was Cool” update! I totally agree with you on everything you say about them. Ace is the coolest ever.

These are really amazing pics! I saw one of the unmasked photos in the National Enquirer back in 1977 or ‘78. I remember feeling bummed out that my heroes had been exposed! Of course now, at the age of 43, these photos are very cool!

there was in fact a pic released circa 1981. they(creem) did print a picture, i believe it was a full page pin up, from this session.

cool pics. just looking at peter with makeup, especially the pics where they are stacking the cans, he just looks unreal.

i really dig the unmasked session. the pics truly transport a 70s feel of NYC, especially the last one, with gene, the car in the background and the two persons on the left. magic!
i remember, i saw one of those pictures back then in a magazine, so there must have been a leak…
