Marilyn Manson – The High End Of Low

Marilyn Manson - The High End Of Low

After the sheer and utter crap that was Marilyn Manson’s last effort, ‘Eat Me, Drink Me’ – I had all but given up on ever getting to hear anything decent from the Manson camp again.

When word filtered out that he was back together again with sidekick Twiggy Ramirez/Jeordie White who had been in Nine Inch Nails for the past few years – my curiosity was piqued enough that I wanted to see what the end result would be. Hearing a couple of the leaked tracks such as ‘We’re From America’ et al, I was once again, feeling genuinely excited about a new Marilyn Manson album again.

Boy, were my expectations shot to hell when I actually got to listen to this thing.

It’s such a plodder of monumental dross proportions. A bore of an album that becomes painful to sit through as you try and cling to some sort of highlight… some sort of spark to maintain any sort of interest.

It starts off well enough. ‘Devour’ kicks things off nicely but just as the song starts to get really interesting and dare I say it, catchy. it all ends in a sudden stop and pours itself into follow up track ‘Pretty As A ($)’. Again, a decent track and better than anything he’s had on offer for a while.

And then… it all get so stupid and as already stated… dull. Painfully dull!

I wanted to like this album so much. I was so eagerly awaiting its release and had extreme faith that ole Marilyn could pull one more classic from his hat… instead, he pulled out a boring, pretentious turd from his ass. (Seriously, go listen to the track ‘WOW’ and tell me with a straight face that its a decent track!)

Sucks!

  • well I like the album but one thing I have noticed is “Into The Fire” and “Leave A Scar” must have been editied since I heard the leaked versions, now they suck, his vocals suck in the new versions.

“The WOW” is so fucking stupid. But “Running to the edge of the world” is to me, one of his best songs in years, as well as “Into The Fire” still has nothing on my all time favorite song “Mechanical Animals” that song says alot about life.

but don’t diss him too much at least his shit is original and not the same crap you here on the radio, ie: disturbed, man they always sound the same.

  • God , this is really the crap ,after I listened to this album I was so fucking disappointed , I quitted listening to Marilyn manson since twiggy ramirez left the band , th band started becoming dull and really boring , I was curious on this new album because as I was reading on some articles I´d found on the net , they said it was gonna be different and tending to be like they used to be and knowing that Twiggy Ramirez was gonna come back to the band I thought things would change at least better than the band´s previous albums but when I heard the leak songs on the net I was so disappointed , I think this band will never be the same , Manson´s gotten old and tedious , his voice´s even changed turning dreary and uninspiring , I think Manson´s band died in Antichrist Superstar . that album had the fury people wanted . this new album doesn´t worth buying .

  • I love the album, however I think one must listen to it many times and study the lyrics closely to catch the idea. It took me a week to figure out what WOW is about. Now that I understand, I love it.
I think all Mansons albums a good – because they all show where he is while cooking the album. I still love his lyrics. They’re as sharp and raw as ever – but he matured. Even though he says he’ll always be 15, it’s not true. In his mind he’s 40, because his thoughts are the thoughts of a 40-year olds.
The High End of Low is from a very fury man. I like the album, because he admits that he hates the entertainment industry and the abuse, but his also sucking for it. Love and Hate. He says he’s a fake.
Perhaps – but his thoughts are not fake. He still bites-:) Very hard-:)

  • Forgot to say that my review on this album was a bit different from yours. If you want to check it you’ll find it on http://astatalks.blogspot.com/2009/06/the-high-end-of-low.html

  • just because this album is different from, say, AntiChrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals, he just wants to write songs about where his at in his life. No one stays at the same place their whole life, so why should mansons music. i love all of his work, from(s)aint to i want to kill you like they do in the movies . . . its all good, just different =]

    jayde
    xx

  • Jade is aboslutely right-:)
I’ve listened to the album every day since I bought it and I think it’s great. More mature. But it is Manson with big M-:)

    Cheers,
