When KISS Was (Kinda) Cool: The Elder

In 1981, it was looking to be all over for KISS. After the release of the disastrous (but oh so amazing) Bob Ezrin produced The Elder album, the band was facing the prospect of a commercial failure.

In a last ditched effort, manager Bill Aucoin and the KISS publicist office, were desperate for any press.

In this series of photos, Gene and Paul visit a hospital.

  • The pics of them with the little girl are priceless. What a little cutie.

  • cool “elder” era images but sadly no “ace” and or eric carr. too bad. the band was on it’s way to losing the “spaceman” and on it’s way to a new chapter that would end up going nowhere. when they finally announced they were taking the grease paint off i was not happy. having said that creatures of the night was a great album. the bands heaviest to date. the elder for some reason really get’s torn apart but to me i think it was a pretty cool period for kiss. how can you not like dark light or escape from the island? c ‘mon how can you not like mr. blackwell? classic kiss goes sour… i love this album so i don’t know or care what people are talking about when they put this record down. some folks really missed the boat on this one… ;) lick it up was the bands best no make-up era record so maybe they were right… but maybe not. hmmm…
