The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight

It is so refreshing to see the legend of Batman being given the respect it deserves because The Dark Knight has surpassed and transcended simply being called a ’superhero’ film. There’s a whole lot more on offer here than just plain ole super-heroics. What we have here is a stellar cast delivering real and poignant acting roles that make each and every unbelievable character - believable.

Heath Ledger pulls in a stunning performance - turning the Joker into a maniacal, psychopathic, anarchist - tinged with ‘Clockwork Orange’ inspired merciless, senseless brutality and schism. You simply cannot take your eyes of him as he possesses the screen and steals each and every scene he is in. There are some genuinely frightful moments accompanied by Hitchcock-like music soundscapes as the Joker proceeds to tell the story of his ’scars’ to his victims. This is evil incarnate. Pure evil. Ledger flinches and stutters as if a sadistic lost, insane soul has completely taken him over, spitting out his lines with venom, satirical, sarcastic jest. What a final curtain call for this talented young man. Take a bow Mr. Ledger.

The Joker appears in the film with a stunning opening bank robbery that is ingenious in its execution and methodology. There is no back-story for the Joker. There is no origin. The Joker exists as the other side of the Batman coin. Where the caped-crusader is a symbol of justice the Joker represents chaos in its purest form.

But there are always three sides to every story. Enter Harvey Dent. Gotham City’s ‘white knight’ District Attorney who finds himself in the middle of the Batman V Joker struggle. Comic book fans will know all about Harvey Dent and his role in the Batman universe, so I won’t spoil it here for others.

The Dark Knight is one of the most amazing movie-going experiences I have seen in a long, long time and already - I want to see this one again. The bar has been raised…

Unbelieveable… not much more to say as the topic post sums it all up. Personally, I am a Batman fan. But, any screen time that doesn’t include the Joker feels like wasted film. The musical score is brilliant, yet most of the story outside of the Clown Prince just feels too cliche and corny. Harvey Dent being the “White Knight” and Batman obviously being the “Dark Knight” is the movie’s general “plot”, but this little metaphor is OVERPLAYED to the fullest. Two Face shouldn’t have been utilized in this movie… his origin should have been explained by the end of the movie then proceeded to be the main antagonist in the next film. Heath/Joker’s charisma was too overwhelming for you to even care about the hero of the film, so why include another villian when the Joker is all you need? Don’t get me wrong, the movie is in no way bad or average… even good. This film is great, but not perfect in any other aspect than Heath Ledger, Morgan Freeman, Michael Cane, and James Newton Howard & Hans Zimmer (the film’s composers). Maggie Gyllenhall was probably good, but you can’t get over the fact that she looked 50 years old and just looked exhasted the whole movie. Aaron Eckhart was good too, but Two Face feels out of place and rushed into a movie that didn’t need him. Harvey Dent was a fine addition to the film, but as I said before, you’re in such a trance from Heath/Joker that Two Face just seems like a minor villian thrown in FOR NO REASON! What about Christian Bale you say? As Bruce Wayne, Bale is brilliant, but will someone please give this man voice lessons before he puts on the bat suit again? He sounds like 50 year smoker with throat cancer, seriously, it made me laugh… several times. Gary Oldman is good in everything he plays, he doesn’t disappoint this time around but again, Joker steals the show from everyone! Like Sarah^ said, if your not a Batman fan, fine… after this you WILL be a Joker fan, it’s just sad that Heath will no reprise the role should the Joker return some day…

Sadly, I’ll probably only get to see it on the small screen via a rental. This looks like a movie that demand big screen viewing. I loved the first movie and by the previews alone, I know I’ll love this movie even more.

    RIP HEATH!
I Watched The Film And Couldn’t Help Thinking All The Way Through That He Will Never Do Another AMAZING Performance Again :’(
I Personally Think It Showed His True Skills And Brought Out Something In Him That I Had Not Witnessed In His Films Before.
If I Could, I Would Honestly Bring Him Back From The Dead.
    But Then Who Wouldn’t?
Over All The Film Was Amazing! I Hope It Wins As Many Awards As It Deserves And I Hope That Heath Ledger Does Get The Oscar He Is Rumored To Be Nominated For Because I Think Absolutely Nothing Can Come Close To Matching His Outstanding Performance Never Mind Beating It!
Please Do Not Mock My Over Excited Praise To Heath Ledger As I Am No Film Critic But I Just Loved His Charisma In The Film And It Is Something I Had Never Seen Before.
The Pencil Trick! LOL That Was Best!
And When The Joker Dressed Up As The Nurse! LMAO!
    Good Times, Good Times.
Righty Ho, I’m Off Now To Make A Joker Bebo Skin!
    Tally Ho!
    Final Words:
HEATH LEDGER I FUCKING LOVE YOU </3 :’(
