As has been covered on this blog before, there is an exciting new Australian publication called Black and yours truly will have a regular column in each issue. I’m not a liberty to discuss exactly what I will be contributing to the mag as editor Angela Chalis and I are still fine tuning some details, but for issue 2, I was fortunate enough to have some of my photography included in the column ‘Through A Lens Darkly’. (see above)
The shot was taken early last year at Centre Place, Melbourne - and is one of my faves as it features my girlfriend. I remember that weekend as if it were yesterday. She has a poster print of this on her lounge room wall and it looks really cool in a large scale format.
Issue 2 of Black should be hitting the newsagencies any day now and of course, you can find out more about it here.
Had myself a pretty decent old day today. First of all, a recent photo of mine of Flinders Street Station has been chosen to appear on the front cover of a Melbourne industry magazine called ‘Planning News’. I was pretty stoked to have my work recognized like this… especially ‘cos it’s going to be on their cover! After a few emails and phone calls back and forth - we got it all organized. The magazine will be available on August 10. I’ll post more then.
In other matters, I have joined the team over at Black magazine. A couple of weeks ago I reported about this new dark culture magazine and now… I’m gonna be contributing very bits and pieces as well as some of my more dark photography. Their latest issues is on sale throughout Australia in newsagencies everywhere, so do pick up a copy.
I’m really excited about this. The first issue looks friggn amazing and I am anticipating some really cool happenings with the guys from Black over the course of this relationship!
Editor Angela Challis and I, discussed what my role would be today over the phone and I am so looking forward to getting stuck into it all.
It’s very rare that I click on ads that proliferate Facebook. In fact, it’s very rare that I even notice them but just the other day - I saw an ad for a forthcoming magazine called ‘Black’. Actually, I had clicked away from the page and only just caught a glimpse of the magazine’s cover… but it piqued my curiosity somewhat ‘cos it appeared to involved themes that are dear to my heart… all things dark, and all things that go bump in the night! I’m so there baby!
So I clicked the ad and found out a little bit more about this forthcoming publication and man, it all sounds damn good! After visiting their website, I fired off an email for more info. I exchanged some emails with the mag’s editor Angela Challis who had high praise for this here blog so it was evident a ‘mutual admiration society’ was clearly in development!
Black brands itself as ‘Australia’s only dark culture and entertainment magazine’ and will be released to an estimated 60,000 readership. It will cover all sorts of dark themed topics such as books, literature, movies, TV, music, the Occult and all manner of dark culture. Kinda like we do right here!
