I finally caught the Grindhouse double-feature at the Astor last night and you know what, I was sure as hell glad that I did! Seeing this classic double-feature at a theatre such as the Astor, was pure magic!
Both the Tarantino and Rodriguez films copped some flak on their initial release. Even tho I enjoyed both films (Rodriguez’s more-so than Tarantino’s) on their DVD release, seeing them on the big screen with a full-house, energetic and responsive Astor audience was pure magic! It was an enthralling night’s entertainment and hearing the crowd react and squirm and laugh and boo and cheer and practically roll with the punches and mayhem on screen - just made it all the more fun!
The Astor itself is such a classic theatre that it seemed tailor made to host this Grindhouse double-bill. I guess that is why the Grindhouse nights are so damn popular as the theatre has been featuring them several times a month for the past year or so.
Seriously, I know you’ve all seen the films. I know you’ve all got the DVD’s. But please, go to the Astor and don’t see these films… EXPERIENCE them! Allright?
Pure fuckn magic!

The Internet community has been buzzing ever since Brad Pitt signed on to headline Quentin Tarantino’s next feature film, Inglorious Bastards. With each casting announcement since it was just a matter of time before we get a glimpse at some teaser poster art. Now the question is, is it legit?
To go with the poster art, it has been confirmed that Robert Richardson, who worked as the Director of Photography on the Kill Bill features, as well as Casino and The Aviator, will be the DP for Inglorious Bastards.

The porn queen is being considered for Quentin Tarantino’s remake of “Faster, Pussycat, Kill! Kill!” Quentin loves her, and she’s a dead ringer for original star Tura Satana.

Melbourne’s Astor Theatre is having an exclusive run of Tarantino’s & Rodriguez’s Grindhouse double-feature. Although both these titles were released on DVD this week, you have to experience them on the gorgeous big screen of the Astor - brimming with its old-school cinema charm - to really enjoy this visual cacophony!
The Astor’s ‘Grindhouse’ feature will have a limited run spanning from March 20 to March 30.
Tarantino’s and Rodriguez’s homage to the trashy drive-in and “grindhouse” double features of the 1970s. Grindhouse was a term reserved for down-at-heel movie theatres that showed D-grade, drive-in-style films, usually with continuous sessions.
This exclusive presentation is shown exactly as the original version was intended, complete with trailers, “scratches” and intermission. (Scratches are a real-film treat for the DVD-jaded generation.)
A DVD release of the full version is NOT planned. (but we know there’ll be one in time right?) Having said that, here’s your chance to finally see this special presentation, on the SuperScreen, in a real-life double-feature movie palace - The Astor Theatre.
Session times:
Sundays & Saturday - 2 PM and 7:30 PM
Monday to Friday - 7:30 PM

Quite possibly the greatest trailer ever! Head on over to Yahoo’s Grindhouse page and be prepared to be blown to hell in teensy weensy pieces! Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse looks like it is going to be the genre release of the century!
Directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez present two full-length movies in a new horror double feature.
In Tarantino’s ‘Death Proof’, Austin’s hottest DJ, Jungle Julia, sets out into the night to unwind with her two friends Shanna an Arlene. Covertly tracking their moves is Stuntman Mike, a scarred rebel leering from behind the wheel of his muscle car, revving just feet away.
In Rodriguez’s ‘Planet Terror’, two doctors find their graveyard shift inundated with townspeople ravaged by sores. Among the wounded is Cherry, a dancer whose leg was ripped from her body. As the invalids quickly become enraged aggressors, Cherry and her ex-boyfriend Wray lead a team of accidental warriors into the night.
